Colour communication
NCS Colour system
Explanation video. Example:
- Ceiling 0907-G90Y [Colour: Green 10% with 90% yellow, expression: 9% black, 7% colour, thus, 84% white],
- Base wall 1010-Y10R,
- Accent wall 2020-Y20R,
- Skirting boards 3020-Y20R.
Note that the ceiling is in some sense a colder expression of the base wall, whereas the accent wall is a warmer version (more red and more chromatic). The skirting boards are two shades darker than the base wall and (a wee bit more red).
Shades, tones and tints
- Shade (mix with black)
- Tones (mix with grey)
- Tints (mix with white)
Preset NCS colour families
Example: Gold ochre + green umber, but we did stray away from it a little bit.
Digitalisation of colour
- NCS colour guide to hex, rgb etc
- QConv Conversion: To convert from NCS to, say, Sikkens.
- Encolorpedia: From hex to paint colours.
Printing the colours is fun, but not really representative of the actual paint colour.
Combining colours
- Aladdin video on colour composition: A proper demonstration of how to use the colour wheel and to traverse from one colour to another. Note the variation in hue, brightness, and that elements are coloured by function to make it cohesive.

Colour impressions for interiors
Nice visualiser of paint colours. Different in real life of course. Also depends on the lighting, see also the bottom of the page there.
